Happy Two's-day everyone!
Work was alright today. Just after 10 Esther asked us to help her put together the materials for the spec in the Gainsborough Hotel binder. So I got started organizing that, but then Amy came up and asked me to make a binder for these pricing sheets. So I worked on creating the labels and price sheets while Laura continued to work on the spec book. By the time I had finished that, Laura was still just ordering the extra samples needed for the spec book - and she thought she'd be fine on her own doing that, so I went back to the library and continued looking for silk for Christine.
I found a lot more today that I thought would work. But now I just need to look up the company and name of each silk online to see if it comes in more than 20 color options. It just takes a of time because you either have to email or call people - and people never get back to you. And you're trying to do this while other people come up to you and ask for little things here and there as well. A simple task of finding an alternative silk line has taken me 1 and a 1/2 days and i'm not done yet.
I ordered two samples last night however off of Wolf Gordon's website that I think will work - one looks similar to the one she already has and it comes in 37 color ways. The other comes in 23. So I at least have something to show her if she asks for it tomorrow - she wasn't here today.
A vendor came in today at noon. Maya Rominoff and Surface Materials... They're two separate companies so I'm not sure why she was representing both at the same time.. But Maya Rominoff stuff is really neat. I think we may be looking to use some of their veneer wall coverings for one of our upcoming hotels. Jon (one of the main principals under Alexandra) seemed really interested in one of them. But of course, I'm always there for the food too. :) Gotta get my free lunch in!
I continued to look for samples for a while as Laura wrapped up ordering all the samples. However prettty soon we were down to only one computer desk at the front because we're in the processing of upgrading some of our computers and swapping out some of the really old ones with others from around the office. One of the front desk computers was being swapped out with a computer from the library. So we only had one computer for the rest of the day which was kind of a pain.
Aijun and HeeSeung asked us to help find an alternative to this double toilet paper roll holder later on in the day. They had a custom one they wanted to use for the public restrooms for the omni shoreham hotel in montreal, but the minimum order is 125 and they only need 30. So we needed to contact this company that has one similar to it to find out what the cost is and if they have 30 in stock. They also wanted us to find out if this particular bath hook and single toilet paper holder from Moen has 30 in stock as well. But of course everyone we contacted seemed to be gone today. It was just a really weird assignment that neither of us really understood.. but we'll contact the other companies again tomorrow to try to track down those things.
And while trying to do all this, Rose kept coming up with samples that either needed to be sent out, scanned and emailed to her, messengers to send for, and other small things. They don't take a lot of time, but that's when a simple project takes hours to complete. Because when people come up to you and ask for a quick favor, your original assignment is just prolonged... But we love Rose. So it didn't matter at all. :) On thing we sent out was going to Phoenix AZ, and when I created the label I accidentally spelled Phoenix, Phoenis.. Good thing we noticed right before we were going to stick it on the box. Oops. :) We laughed about phoenis for too long.
And then at about 5 Anna came in and asked me to do a few touch ups on this custom bookcase again. Apparently she had had a meeting with Alexandra Champalimaud today and she like the bookcase that me and anna had been working on (YAY). There were just a couple little things that Anna wanted me to change in the drawings design wise that alex suggested we do. And stapled to the drawing she gave me was the first estimate sheet and each bookcase will be worth about $8500 each. And we're doing three. SHEEESH. I cannot believe what people will pay for things like that. But hey, I'm helping draw up an $8500 custom bookcase. :) I'll be finishing up some of the last details tomorrow I think.
8 work days left!
