I've now made it to the halfway point in the week and then passed it. Hooray for having two days left this week! And two of my friends are arriving tomorrow evening to see me! YAY.
This morning started off slow, got really busy, and then ended slightly slower.
It was slow in the morning because the computer I usually use had been swapped out yesterday evening with Yuri's old one, and the this 'new' old one of Yuri's was TERRIBLE. For whatever reason it just would not work up at reception. But Jeff was too busy during the morning to come swap them out, and there was no other computer available for me to work on. So I just sat at reception and tried to help Laura on our continued quest of finding a replacement for a double toiler paper holder.
We looked through all our library resources, called everyone that Aijun and HeeSeung wanted us to, looked at other sites online, and even now we still don't have a set vendor yet. Places we were able to talk to would sometimes have a double toilet paper roll holder, but they wouldn't have 30 in stock and the lead time would be 6 weeks out or more if we wanted to get the 30. Sooo that wouldn't work - the hotel they're going to be used in is already under construction. We need them ASAP. So I kinda was able to help Laura do this while I had no computer but it only takes one person to run the computer.. so she did most of the work. I hate feeling useless, but there was really nothing I could do... it's crazy how in a firm in seems 99% of things are done in front of a screen...
But later on at around 11:45 when we had contacted everyone necessary, Laura was asked to go to these 5 different stone places to check into some for one of the firms projects. This turned out to be perfect because now I could have my own computer to work on to finish up my project with Christine while Laura ran around looking for stones. Perfect.
That's when it got busy. I had just started to call certain wallcovering companies to start ordering color card samples of silk, when Breakaway Courier (the messenger service) called me saying that they were at Jerry Pair right now because supposedly we had called for a pickup but there was no one there and nothing at the loading dock to pick up... So I called the Jerry Pair showroom to tell them that we had a messenger waiting for an order of samples that we had placed at their showroom. The girl didn't really know if it had been taken down to the loading dock or not so she was going to go check and call me back. Great. But then the annoying messenger called again asking where it was and that he had been waiting for 25 min. blah blah blah and that he needs to get it now.
Jerry Pair called me back to tell me that the order had indeed been sent down, why that stupid messenger couldn't find it? I don't know. But he called back again asking where it was and that he had been waiting for 25 minutes - so I gave him the company number to Jerry Pair and told him to ask them himself and that there was nothing more I could do. It wasn't my job at all - it's his. I have no control over the pick ups. If you're at jerry pair for a pick up and you can't see what's being picked up, CALL THEM. NOT ME. Blah. I was just so of being the middle man in an issue that shouldn't have concerned me at all.
I don't think this situation wouldn't have bothered me so much had I not been continually interruped inbetween calls, after calls, and during calls - By fabric reps, people that had scheduled meetings with people in the firm, me calling silk companies, Rose coming up with spec things for me to work on, and package deliveries. There was just so much going on. But at least it made the time go by faster!
I finished up the spec details that Rose was having me work on and then took a lunch. I needed a break. When I came back I continued to work on contacting people about these silk wallcoverings for a while. Jeff came up and had switched back the computers, so now we had two working ones at reception. FINALLY!
Alexandra actually was in today, and she walked by reception and told me to throw away the flowers that were sitting at reception that Alia's boyfriend gave her for her birthday because they looked dead too dead to her and they reminded her of funerals. She only likes live ones. They were not even that dead! And then she looked at the trash can at reception and told me to do something about that because "if clients saw that they would turn up their nose." ooookaayy.. I'm sorry we had a lot of junk mail today and the garbage can is tiny...
As soon as she was gone me and Laura put the trash can back. Alex is a diva. She doesn't even know our names and every time she walks by reception (which is like once a week maybe) she complains about something. It's kinda rediculous. Actually, her personal assistant who started about a week before I arrived quit Monday. I always felt bad for her. She said her life was just like the movie 'Devil wears Prada.'
ANYWAY. Enough rambling. Tomorrow I'm going to try and finish up gathering enough silk color cards, and then do this task that Liz gave me right before we left. I'll explain it tomorrow.
Yay for long - and too detailed posts.
