Happy Fourth of July!!
We all got to sleep in today, it was so nice. We kinda took our time getting ready in the morning and then eventually left down to Union Square. The Farmers Market was going on again down there so it was really nice to browse through. They always have the best smelling fresh fruit and veggies and other things.
Then I had mother take my picture in front of my works "Champalimaud" sign outside the door. Needed some proof that I actually work here! :)
We then went some shopping at some of the stores around the square and then walked over to 5th avenue to look in some of the stores up that street. Before too long we got super hot so we began looking for something to eat. We ended up going back down to Union Square because we had wandered up to 23rd street, and then found a place a few blocks over called "Tossed". They had really good salads, sandwiches and wraps. Me and mother had a half caesar sald with sandwich - and the caesar salad was one of the best caesar salads I have ever had. SO GOOD. Plus it was just so nice to get into a place that was refrigerated because we were already so so hot.
After we ate, we went back to the apartment to drop off our leftovers and just take a quick break to get out of the heat. We left a bit later to walk through China Town and Little Italy. A lot of the stores down there were closed due the fourth, same with a lot of the sidewalk restaurants in little Italy. But we weren't really interested in any of the stores down there, we were mainly just walking around to see what was there. But again, we became so hot so quickly due to the humidity that we just wanted to leave after about an hour.
We got on the Subway and headed up to Times Square to go to the Disney Store. It is the cutest place. Me and Emily each got a stuffed animal. I got Meeko from Pocahontas, and Emily got a Dalmation puppy. Then we again went back to our apartment to rest before heading out to see the fireworks.
We had to walk over to 11th street and there were so many people there. We eventually went down 56th street and it turned out that it wasn't the greatest viewing area. We could see the fireworks, but only about half of each burst. There were trees in the way. Oh well... Still neat to see what we could. Emily wasn't feeling well the whole time and just wanted to leave. We all felt so hot the entire time just sitting out in the humidity. I hate humidity so darn much.
We left and stopped at the Food Emporium across from my apartment and each got lots of drinks because we were so thirsty. We came back to the apartment and gulped down our desired juices, water, and pop for mother.
All in all, it was a pretty fun fourth. It was just a super sweaty one. :)
