Being able to sleep in after having a week of not enough sleep is a wonderful thing. So yes, my saturday didn't really start until 12:30. :) I went down to the farmers market down by union square because I wanted to get some flowers. But then I decided not to get any when I was down there thinking that it was a waste of money because I'd have to throw them out in a week anyway.
So I went back to the apartment and took some loads of laundry down to the laundromat. I'm glad I have one relatively close to my apartment. It's a nice little place and it wasn't even crowded at all today.
When that was done and I was back at the apartment I came to regret my earlier decision of not getting any flowers so I went back down the market and bought two little cute annuals. :) Only $6 for the two! 1 rudbeckia (they look like mini sunflowers) and 1 angelonia (kinda like pink/purple lavender). So glad I went back to get them!
After that I decided to visit a few places that I wanted to see. I started off by walking to that cute little tea and scone shop that I mentioned on thursday - Alices Tea Cup. Cutest little place, I'm going to see if I can get my next visitor to go there with me.
Then I walked all the way down to Bryant Park - behind the NY library. Its a very nice little park. There's tons of trees, lots of outdoor eating, a carousel, and a stage where they have performances. I sat in the park for a bit, and then made my way back home by walking. It was a lot of walking, but I wanted to see areas that I never see. So I walked over to first avenue from bryant park, and then up 20 blocks to my apartment. I made a stop at the food emporium though and bought myself more sushi for dinner. I love being able to eat that all the time now. It's my favorite!
My third visitor is coming bright and early tomorrow morning! I'm excited!
And tomorrow starts my 7th and final week here... :(

MY LAST DAY AS AN INTERN!
My last day was today!! How crazy is that? Where did the last 6+ weeks go? It seemed like only like yesterday I was spending all my time and efforts trying to just get an internship, and now it's over. I can't believe it!
So today was a board finishing day. And luckily my fears of not being able to get more fabrics to redo the 'pillows' went away because I was able to get the guest room material spec book from Stella and take out some extra sampes that I needed for the pillows to remake. And it didn't sound like I needed to have it done today - so that's good. I was trying to hurry yesterday because I didn't know when it was due. But now I knew that I could take my time today trying to get everything pefect for this huge presentation board.
I continued to work on it throughout the day. After I remade all of the pillows - I only had to remake two after that. And stella did one of them for me - hooray. She had me order the three drapery fabrics in a yard sample if we could - just for another option - so I did that as well today. Some didn't come in a yard sample, so I just asked for the biggest size they have.
I picked out some alternative wood samples since I didn't get around too it yesterday, And mounted a picture of a pillow that needed to go on the boards as well. I wrapped up the carpet poms into a grouping with ribbon, and cropped the paint samples to the appropriate sizes. FINALLY Stella was happy with my little fabric pillows too - about time. I burned my fingers off. And this nearly took me all day - and again I did not have time for a lunch. BOO. But it was such a busy busy last day! Which I'm glad- it's nice to have a big part in such a big project. I hope the client likes how it turns out and doesn't chew off my coworkers heads after I leave. I never did get one of the samples that we're putting on the board cut because the maintenance people who work in the back never answered the bell when I'd ring. They always cut wood samples for us as a favor when we ask.
So I asked Laura if she could make sure it was cut on Monday along with the white wood sample too.
Jon told me as he was leaving around 4:30 that if I ever needed a referral or anything, don't hesitate to contact him. He thanked me for all my work and said he really appreciated it. Apparently he really wanted to find me before he left so he could thank me, but at that precise moment I was in the bathroom washing glue off my hands. He was asking everyone upstairs and downstairs if they had seen me - and so when I came out of the bathroom he was waiting for the elevator. When he saw me he basically yelled KATHRYN. Scared me to death... But it was nice of him to be so concerned about thanking me before he left for the weekend. He was very nice about it.
And Christine was really sweet too later in the day. When she was leaving she made a point of stopping and thanking me as well - asked me about what I was doing next - and told me after school if i'm ever back in the area or looking for somewhere to work next, contact her. Which I thought was also super sweet of her to say - it made it sound like they wouldn't mind having me back. It's just nice to know.
Before I left I put a sticky note on top of every fabric in the Jakarta spec binder that either Laura or Alvetina needed to order more of come next week. I didn't have time today and Stella would like to have three of each kind of fabric again in the spec book. Since we've used up the previous supplies of fabrics by making the last three presentation boards, we need to restock again.
It seemed really weird leaving for good. I was finally more comfortable with things there and felt more adjusted. And of course now it's time to go. Overall I really did love working at Champalimaud Design a lot. I learned a ton! The staff was really nice and helpful - and it was awesome to get some experience working in a firm and seeing how things are run. It makes the skills I spend so long trying to perfect in school seem more worthwhile now. I'm glad they did a lot of hospitality work (hotels, restaurants, spas, etc.) because that wasn't the side of design I thought I wanted to go into. Now I would want to work in that side of design just as much as the residential side. Hotel jobs are a lot of work, but they're such a neat project to be a part of! I'll miss seeing my other intern buddies everyday and the members of the staff as well! When you don't know one single other person in the city you're living in, your coworkers become great familiar faces.
What a great internship!! So sad to see it end, but at the same time I'm ready for it.

And now I leave home in a week! Crazy!
Second to last day.
Happy Thursday!
What a busy day today was. I was so busy the entire day I never even got a break for lunch or anything.
Jon had a small task for me to do once I got there - ordering a cake for Chatu's baby shower next week. I don't know why he didn't just do this himself because he's always so picky about things. But whatevs. He threw a little fit when I went back to his desk to see what kind of frosting he wanted for it because there were so many options and he came back and said how i'd basically blown the surprise and that he just wanted their basic coconut cream cake - to not pick out anything different then their original. Well how was I supposed to know that was an option? I've never eaten there before... sheeesh.
Ellie asked for some help from one of the interns around 10:30 and since I was the only one not currently busy, I volunteered. She was getting things ready for a meeting she had with the Alexandra at 12. I helped her by cutting out and mounting a some furniture images, pining up elevations, and printing off some images - easy stuff. But it all takes time and I was happy to help out. We don't want to do anything wrong to upset the boss...
We had the reps from Texstyle come in today for a vendor presentation.. but I never got to see it. Soon after I was done with Ellie, Stella asked if I could help her with a presentation board downstairs. I didn't really know what that would entail, but I said i'd love to help. It took the rest of the day...
So we've already mailed out two material boards representing different rooms to Indonesia for the St. Regis Hotel. And now we're getting a third one ready to send out to the clients over there and I'm putting it together. It's stressful because Stella told me that these are super picky clients and they actually chewed us out over the last boards we sent over due to stupid little minor things that a normal person wouldn't even care about. Sounds like they're just difficult to be difficult because they can. And because this is a really high end expensive project.
And I'm now the only one putting it together... great. At least I know i'll be gone if we get bad feedback after we send it out. Won't be my problem anymore. :)
Anyway, it's a huge 36"x36" board and she had a printed out template of how everything was supposed to be arranged on this board. Basically I had to mirror the template. SO MUCH harder said than actually done. All the drapery fabrics had to be cut and arranged a certain way - and of course in all exactly equal sizes with the trims pricisely arranged on top. She made a note of telling me that everything needed to be arranged to a T. Every fabric that represented either a headboard, pillow fabric, or chair, etc had to be made into a little 'pillow'. I was supposed to cut out a square of foam board for each fabric represented on the board, put some batting on top of the foam board, then wrap it in the fabric that each piece of furniture was representing. Which was literally taking me hours. It is so hard to get a perfectly straight rectangle, or square, or whatever when I was wrapping foam board with fabric. I actualy didn't even realize I was supposed to be making fabric 'pillows' the first time I cut out fabric. I thought I was just cutting out a square of each fabric for the baord- so I lost a few hours when I thought I was done only for her to tell me that I wasn't at all... oops. I didn't know - I've never had to make a material board. Who would have thought we take the time to make a little pillow for each represented fabric on a material board?
And some of the fabrics were representing chairs with a nailhead trim. So I'd even have to create this trim by putting brads into the trim and them attaching that to the fabric pillow. It was a stressful day because my pillows weren't turning out right. And I kept burning my fingers on hot glue!! I swear I'll have no tips left by tomorrow.
I wish I would have been able to take a picture of this board.. it'd all make a lot more sense. But this took the rest of the day, and I'm not even done at all, and I need to remake a lot of the pillows because I found out right at the end of the day that the second way I made them was still wrong. All four corners had to be turned under and glued. I hope I will be able to somehow get more fabric since I can't really reuse the ones I already hot glued around pieces of board... It's really stressful that I'm preparing this board basically by myself. And that it will be shipped across the world to a super picky client for our super high end luxury/expensive hotel. No biggie.
But that'll be my problem for tomorrow - I still need to cut some gold trim, find an alternate flooring wood sample, and order some extra wood trim. I think tomorrow will be just as busy, busy day. And a very last day at that!
I was starving by the time I got home. STARVING. The only other thing I had had to eat today since 7:30 in the morning was half a scone at work. Our lovely little rep from TRI-KIS, Lauren, almost always brings treats when she brings by requested samples. They are the best days ever! Last week she brought doughnuts! And today she brought scones from this cute little place:
http://alicesteacup.com/
I want to go there before I go home. Their menu looks divine. And so cute! So besides the scone, I had eaten nothing all day and I was so hungry. So it became a sushi night. :)
One more day of work!

LAST WEDNESDAY.
This morning I woke up with a plan - get to work earlier than usual so I can make sure I get a place to sit. It worked. Therefore I had things to do and work on today! It was better.
I worked on this CAD drawing of some elevations for a penthouse on the westside of central park - the residence where the custom bookcases are going. Anyway, I worked on drawing up detailed drafting elevations, and furniture drawings off and on the whole day. They take a while. But I love working in CAD. It's easy for me and I'm good at it.
I also helped Rose create invitations for everyone for a baby shower we're holding for Chatu next week in the office. So sad I won't be able to go! Well, I guess I would.. but i'd feel weird considering I won't work there anymore...
And later on in the afternoon, a HUGE thunderstorm came in suddenly. It was high 90's at one moment and then the next it was literally the hardest rainstorm I had seen in years. So cool to see it 7 floors up too. There was a massive amount of rain in a very short time.
I had no umbrella today. Poop.
Thank goodness by the time I went home the rain had kind of subsided. It was much lighter by the time I was walking home from the subway. I was glad to not get absolutely drenched.
Today was also the day I had super gross/weird/awkward experiences on my lunch break. Not sure who all reads this - but ask me about it and i'll tell you. :)
Lauren and Rachel left early this morning so my night after work was just spent tidying back up the place and resting. Oh and skyping with the family. I'm still tired from all the sleep i've lost this last week. Good thing it's almost the weekend!
2 more work days!

LAST TUESDAY.
I love doing all these dramatic capital letter posts for my last week.
And on a seperate note, today was an overall dumb work day.
First - because I had basically no place to sit. I got there last today and there weren't any empty or extra computers anywhere else in the office that weren't being used or that I was able to use.
Soooo.. that was stupid.
There were really only three things I did today: delivered that glass sample AGAIN to the same company in exchange for a box samples to bring back to our office, worked on compiling and reorganizing and architectural standards book from the Jakarta project, and helping Rose order a few fabrics. Luckily creating this Architectural Standards book took a couple hours.
Longest. Day. Of. My. Life. And the whole time Laura and Alya were completely busy and swamped doing photoshop again but I couldn't really help out because I had no where to do it. SO LAME. I hate feeling useless and unfortunately today there were times when I did.
Tonight we went out to see two museums. It took a while to find the New Museum of Contemporary Art because it's in lower manhattan and we kept going the wrong direction after looking at the map. It was a really neat museum - but it wasn't lit up like it was supposed to be and since it was dark out we couldn't really see it. Lamers. I was so excited to see this building stacked up...
Here's a pictue of what I was hoping to see..but it was too dark and they didn't have it lit up at all.

At least I know my way around that side of town a bit more now! And I hadn't ever wandered around that side of town before - so check that area off my list! Ha. :)
And then we took the subway all the way up to 86th street to see the Guggenheim. I was hoping it'd be lit up as well at night, but it wasn't. What was with all these unlit buildings tonight? Oh well, the guggenheim is still a super neat building to see anyway.
When we got back to the apartment - lauren and rachel worked on packing up since they're leaving tomorrow morning bright and early.
3 more days of work!

LAST MONDAY.
It's my last Monday of the internship! Crazy!
And today was basically an errand day unfortunately. Or fortunately - depending on how you look at it.
When I got to the front of the building, they were pouring a new cement front so I couldn't even get in the building. The foreman asked if I would go around the side to get in. So I said sure! But I had no idea where I was going. Luckily I found a door where some guys let me and I took a freight elevator up to the second floor and then the regular elevator in the building up to the 7th. Weird start to a day...
A few minutes after I arrived there Christine came up with one of the silk cover cards I ordered from Wolf Gordon, and I guess she must have liked that particular line that I ordered because she asked me to order 8"x10" samples of every color that the line comes in. (She had assigned me a task to find an alternate silk line that had at least 20 color ways.)
So I emailed our rep about it, and then moved to the desk in the library because Laura and Alvetina were doing photoshopping things for Kelly today and luckily Esther was gone so I could sit at her desk. The rep got back to me and the samples would be arriving later that day. Lovely!
At about 12:45 HeeSeung emailed all three of us interns asking if someone was free to deliver that same glass sample I took last week back to the place again. Since the other two interns were busy photoshopping for a deadline that day, I volunteered to go. So there I was back out on the hot streets carrying this box of glass around again. Fun. At least I could get up the elevator today because it wasn't after hours.
When I returned, I started working on some CAD plans for Aijun, and went through the gainsborough material spec book to make sure we had all the materials ordered that were supposed to go into the book. And that's when Liz emailed the interns about picking up a lacquered sample of wood at this art space place down the street. Since I was planning on going to lunch soon - Laura suggested I go pick it up on my way back.. greeeaaat. Another errand - seriously, one of them could have done it.
But whatever. I did this errand too. This one was weird because it was in a small building that contained many different businesses and I had to get buzzed in. I've never had to do that before. I felt so silly saying what I was there for to some strange voice coming out of the speaker box on the side of the building.
Anyway so I came back and continued to work on the plans and the materials when Laura called me and asked if I'd have time to return this camera equipment that we had rented for something. Apparently Courtney had asked her and Alvetina at the front desk, but they were still working on photoshop drawings so what could I say? No? So back out in the heat I went with two huge black bags full of camera equipment. So hard to get on the subway with them. Luckily the store they went back to was on 23rd street - so I only had to ride it up one stop.
I hated doing all these errands because it was back in the 90's today with humidity. So i'd leave and get sweaty walking around and then come back and cool off - just to go back out again and get all sweaty. Not fun...
When I got back it was almost 6 which was perfect. I did a few things on the computer for about 40 minutes and then it was time to go home. Perfect!
Back at the apartment, I did the dishes and cleaned up a bit before Lauren and Rachel got home. And I tried buzzing them in from my room and it worked this time! Yay!
The only thing we did tonight was go to grand central and eat pizza on the way home. We were in Grand Central for a while just taking pictures of ourselves on a timer. It was very entertaining. And then on the way home we stopped at the pizza place on the corner on the street my apartment is one and each got a slice to bring up to my room. I love pizza. It's cheap compared to other things here and it's always good.
4 more days of work! I'm excited to be done with work now I think. Just because I'm so close now and I've been so tired this week.
Sunday!
Got up just before 9 to get ready for church at 11. It was a nice day at church - the husband of the girl that spoke last week from Logan talked today. And then a cute couple that was from Switzerland. It's neat having people from other nationalities in your ward.
When we got back - rachel wanted to shower since they didn't get up early enough to make time for both of them to shower and lauren took a nap. When rachel got out she said she had a migraine so laid down as well. So then I spent the next almost two hours waiting for them to get up. Good thing I have netflix...
Me and Lauren went out while Rachel continued to try to get rid of her migraine. We first took the train across the east river, then walked towards central park. But on the way to subway we saw that here was a Bastille Day street fair going on so we walked down the street on our way to the park. There were lots of little food tents, and places for you to sign up to join different organizations. And then we came across a stand that was selling cute poster art and cards. I got a few of them - love them all.
Then we meandered into central park and walked past the zoo. We came across a puppeteer just outside the zoo boundary that was putting on a show for kids. He was adorable with them and pretty darn good at puppetry too. It was entertaining to watch.
By the time we got back to the apartment rachel was still asleep, so we woke her up and went up to see the Seinfeld restaurant on 112th street. So great! And then we went down to Lincoln Center to see the Temple. We went inside and was told there was a singles ward activitiy going on upstairs. I didn't really want to go up... but we went anyway. Lauren took refreshments, but me and rachel didn't. I felt weird doing it.
We took some pictures outside the Lincoln Center and then went down to Washington Sq. It was raining when we got there - and lightning. We didn't linger long in the square. Just found the NQR subway and took it back home. Was pretty wet though.
Now to start my last week or work! Exciting!

Saturday!
I got up a little before 10 and started getting ready for today while lauren and rachel slept. When they finally got up me and lauren went to the store to get some groceries and then lauren left to go to a yankee game with someone she knew who was also visiting here. BORING.
Me and Rachel didn't go. Baseball = boring and stupid. So Rachel and I went and put our name down on the waiting list at Serendipity's and then shopped at Bloomingdale's and H&M while we waited for an hour and half for a table to be ready. She tried the mind frozen hot chocolate and I got the regular. Always soooo yummy.
After we were done with all that, it was about time for Lauren to get back so we went back to the apartment and waited for only a bit for her to arrive. Then all three of us went out. We first stopped in the meatpacking district and looked around. It was a neat little area with a lot of good looking restaurants. And I found Highline Park here! I visited it last year but wasn't sure at the time where in the world I was, but we came across it today! So now I know where it is. :) And there was a very guy in a high hotel window above one of the highline park walkways standing in his hotel window in his underwear. Haha. He was getting quite a lot of attention from everyone around - he was beyond drunk... Oh the joys of alcohol. It's such a nice place though! The park was an above ground subway system I think - either that or a train. And they turned the track into a wide walkway filled with trees, flowers, benches, little food stands. It's such a cute area.
We walked down the highline park for a while and then took the subway over to Little Italy and China town. We ended up just browsing through Little Italy and then ate in China Town. Chicken curry for me! So good!
When we got back to the apartment we took a quick break and then went off to the Empire State Building. The lines take forever there. You continually keep snaking around from room to room, hallway to hallway until finally you get to the first elevator... it takes you to the 80th floor. And then you do more snaking around until you get to the second elevator that takes you to the 86th floor observatory level. It's always so worth the wait though - the view is incredible! I'm so glad the observatory is outside. It makes the experience so much better. If course we stuck our heads through the railings to look over the edge. You can see four different states from atop the empire state building on a clear day. Impressive.
After getting back it was almost 2 in the morning. We left for the ESB around 10:30 - so it took a while. The lines took longer than we thought. At least we can kind of sleep in. Except not really - church is at 11 and I need to get up at 9...

Second to last friday!
Friday!
I started off the day by contacting three of the companies that I ordered fabric samples from yesterday because the messengers that were supposed to pick up those samples and bring them to me never did - so I was wondering if the samples were still at the showroom or if I needed to contact the messenger company. Apparently all three of these companies never had a messenger pick up the fabric. Poop. So I had to recall the breakaway courier company and give them all the addresses again of where I need things picked up at. Stupid mercury...
Little things filled up the morning and before I knew it, it was almost 2 in the afternoon. I met Rachel and Lauren in the square outside work and we went to lunch at Whole Foods and then ate it in the park.
I finished up the day by doing little odd jobs here and there - making labels for packages, photoshopping some things, working in CAD a bit. It was a bit slower in the afternoon and I just wanted to leave.
I met Rachel and Lauren at my apartment after work. Actually we ran into eachother in the subway which was crazy. We decided to go to FAO Schwartz first but it ended up closing soon after we walked in which was dumb. And then we started walking down 5th avenue. We ended up going over to Rockefeller center and then over to Times Square. We went to the Disney store and Forever 21 where I bought a skirt that I shouldn't have but couldn't resist. :) And then we took the subway down to Rector st. and walked over to see the statue of liberty at night. It was pretty! But I didn't like being down there late at night and suggested we go after a bit. It would not be a good place to run into someone you wouldn't want to meet.
On the street down to our apartment two guys yelled at us from that they'd give us $100 dollars for a night. Flattering.
Soooooo grosssssssss.
It was a long day of walking and I'm tired! Bedtime!

THURSDAY.
Thursday was a busy busy day. The Omni Shoreman Hotel group has a presentation they're doing to our client I believe next Tuesday, and today was the day they wanted to get all the presentation boards basically layed out and every fabric approved and put out. I think they wanted to do this by today because the senior designer in charge of the project was going to be gone either Friday or monday... and she needed to approve everything.
Anyway, that left me and Laura with some scrambling trying to help them out. I started out by trying to track down an alternate fabric for a fabric we were going to use but found out it was discontinued. I contacted Angela from Angela Brown leathers because she always is super helpful and never lets us down with things we need help with. And sure enough, she pulled through. I sent her a sample today and told her to send back anything that was as close to the same texture and color as possible. And boy did she. It was basically an identical match. Go me.
So I asked her to send over two more of that kind of fabric so we could use them on our presentation boards. And then Rose came up and needed help and had about 6 different kinds of fabric and wanted me to order samples in every color way that those 6 kinds of fabrics came in. Once that was done and the messengers were called and sent for, Kelly came over with a request. We had two samples of Holland & Sherry fabric, and she wanted to see if we could get 12" x 12" samples of them instead. So I called them - and no. So instead she had me order 4 of each.
In between all this, me and Laura were helping out with little photoshopping assignments. Fixing elevations, a few plans, etc. It made the day go by super fast. And then of course a vendor came in at noon again. Linda from F. Schumacher wallcoverings. She loved my black and white striped pants. Yay. Other than that, she was weird..
Later in the day HeeSeung gave me a spec book from St. Regis Jakarta with some things that needed to be filed into and the binder itself needed to be reorganized completely because the order was really screwed up in accordance with the tabs. So that took me a while - and then Anna emailed us and asked if someone was free to help her with something so I volunteered. She needed all these things printed off and filed into the Geneva spec book, but of course thats when the printer decided to be really dumb and totally back up. Laura was doing some photoshopping for Stella, and neither of us could print what we needed out of the color printer. I kept trying for a long time, but eventually it was almost 6:30 and I just gave up and went home. Laura and Alvetina were helping the omin shoreman team in the library but I wanted to go because I needed to get some things done before Lauren and Rachel arrived.
Anyway, the day just went by super fast. I love those kind of days. 6 days more of work! Crazy. Lauren and Rachel didn't end up arrving to my place till about a quarter to 1. I didn't get much sleep that night that's for sure. I'm tirreedd. Good thing it's the weekend!

Midway.
I've now made it to the halfway point in the week and then passed it. Hooray for having two days left this week! And two of my friends are arriving tomorrow evening to see me! YAY.
This morning started off slow, got really busy, and then ended slightly slower.
It was slow in the morning because the computer I usually use had been swapped out yesterday evening with Yuri's old one, and the this 'new' old one of Yuri's was TERRIBLE. For whatever reason it just would not work up at reception. But Jeff was too busy during the morning to come swap them out, and there was no other computer available for me to work on. So I just sat at reception and tried to help Laura on our continued quest of finding a replacement for a double toiler paper holder.
We looked through all our library resources, called everyone that Aijun and HeeSeung wanted us to, looked at other sites online, and even now we still don't have a set vendor yet. Places we were able to talk to would sometimes have a double toilet paper roll holder, but they wouldn't have 30 in stock and the lead time would be 6 weeks out or more if we wanted to get the 30. Sooo that wouldn't work - the hotel they're going to be used in is already under construction. We need them ASAP. So I kinda was able to help Laura do this while I had no computer but it only takes one person to run the computer.. so she did most of the work. I hate feeling useless, but there was really nothing I could do... it's crazy how in a firm in seems 99% of things are done in front of a screen...
But later on at around 11:45 when we had contacted everyone necessary, Laura was asked to go to these 5 different stone places to check into some for one of the firms projects. This turned out to be perfect because now I could have my own computer to work on to finish up my project with Christine while Laura ran around looking for stones. Perfect.
That's when it got busy. I had just started to call certain wallcovering companies to start ordering color card samples of silk, when Breakaway Courier (the messenger service) called me saying that they were at Jerry Pair right now because supposedly we had called for a pickup but there was no one there and nothing at the loading dock to pick up... So I called the Jerry Pair showroom to tell them that we had a messenger waiting for an order of samples that we had placed at their showroom. The girl didn't really know if it had been taken down to the loading dock or not so she was going to go check and call me back. Great. But then the annoying messenger called again asking where it was and that he had been waiting for 25 min. blah blah blah and that he needs to get it now.
Jerry Pair called me back to tell me that the order had indeed been sent down, why that stupid messenger couldn't find it? I don't know. But he called back again asking where it was and that he had been waiting for 25 minutes - so I gave him the company number to Jerry Pair and told him to ask them himself and that there was nothing more I could do. It wasn't my job at all - it's his. I have no control over the pick ups. If you're at jerry pair for a pick up and you can't see what's being picked up, CALL THEM. NOT ME. Blah. I was just so of being the middle man in an issue that shouldn't have concerned me at all.
I don't think this situation wouldn't have bothered me so much had I not been continually interruped inbetween calls, after calls, and during calls - By fabric reps, people that had scheduled meetings with people in the firm, me calling silk companies, Rose coming up with spec things for me to work on, and package deliveries. There was just so much going on. But at least it made the time go by faster!
I finished up the spec details that Rose was having me work on and then took a lunch. I needed a break. When I came back I continued to work on contacting people about these silk wallcoverings for a while. Jeff came up and had switched back the computers, so now we had two working ones at reception. FINALLY!
Alexandra actually was in today, and she walked by reception and told me to throw away the flowers that were sitting at reception that Alia's boyfriend gave her for her birthday because they looked dead too dead to her and they reminded her of funerals. She only likes live ones. They were not even that dead! And then she looked at the trash can at reception and told me to do something about that because "if clients saw that they would turn up their nose." ooookaayy.. I'm sorry we had a lot of junk mail today and the garbage can is tiny...
As soon as she was gone me and Laura put the trash can back. Alex is a diva. She doesn't even know our names and every time she walks by reception (which is like once a week maybe) she complains about something. It's kinda rediculous. Actually, her personal assistant who started about a week before I arrived quit Monday. I always felt bad for her. She said her life was just like the movie 'Devil wears Prada.'
ANYWAY. Enough rambling. Tomorrow I'm going to try and finish up gathering enough silk color cards, and then do this task that Liz gave me right before we left. I'll explain it tomorrow.
Yay for long - and too detailed posts.

Two's-day.
Happy Two's-day everyone!
Work was alright today. Just after 10 Esther asked us to help her put together the materials for the spec in the Gainsborough Hotel binder. So I got started organizing that, but then Amy came up and asked me to make a binder for these pricing sheets. So I worked on creating the labels and price sheets while Laura continued to work on the spec book. By the time I had finished that, Laura was still just ordering the extra samples needed for the spec book - and she thought she'd be fine on her own doing that, so I went back to the library and continued looking for silk for Christine.
I found a lot more today that I thought would work. But now I just need to look up the company and name of each silk online to see if it comes in more than 20 color options. It just takes a of time because you either have to email or call people - and people never get back to you. And you're trying to do this while other people come up to you and ask for little things here and there as well. A simple task of finding an alternative silk line has taken me 1 and a 1/2 days and i'm not done yet.
I ordered two samples last night however off of Wolf Gordon's website that I think will work - one looks similar to the one she already has and it comes in 37 color ways. The other comes in 23. So I at least have something to show her if she asks for it tomorrow - she wasn't here today.
A vendor came in today at noon. Maya Rominoff and Surface Materials... They're two separate companies so I'm not sure why she was representing both at the same time.. But Maya Rominoff stuff is really neat. I think we may be looking to use some of their veneer wall coverings for one of our upcoming hotels. Jon (one of the main principals under Alexandra) seemed really interested in one of them. But of course, I'm always there for the food too. :) Gotta get my free lunch in!
I continued to look for samples for a while as Laura wrapped up ordering all the samples. However prettty soon we were down to only one computer desk at the front because we're in the processing of upgrading some of our computers and swapping out some of the really old ones with others from around the office. One of the front desk computers was being swapped out with a computer from the library. So we only had one computer for the rest of the day which was kind of a pain.
Aijun and HeeSeung asked us to help find an alternative to this double toilet paper roll holder later on in the day. They had a custom one they wanted to use for the public restrooms for the omni shoreham hotel in montreal, but the minimum order is 125 and they only need 30. So we needed to contact this company that has one similar to it to find out what the cost is and if they have 30 in stock. They also wanted us to find out if this particular bath hook and single toilet paper holder from Moen has 30 in stock as well. But of course everyone we contacted seemed to be gone today. It was just a really weird assignment that neither of us really understood.. but we'll contact the other companies again tomorrow to try to track down those things.
And while trying to do all this, Rose kept coming up with samples that either needed to be sent out, scanned and emailed to her, messengers to send for, and other small things. They don't take a lot of time, but that's when a simple project takes hours to complete. Because when people come up to you and ask for a quick favor, your original assignment is just prolonged... But we love Rose. So it didn't matter at all. :) On thing we sent out was going to Phoenix AZ, and when I created the label I accidentally spelled Phoenix, Phoenis.. Good thing we noticed right before we were going to stick it on the box. Oops. :) We laughed about phoenis for too long.
And then at about 5 Anna came in and asked me to do a few touch ups on this custom bookcase again. Apparently she had had a meeting with Alexandra Champalimaud today and she like the bookcase that me and anna had been working on (YAY). There were just a couple little things that Anna wanted me to change in the drawings design wise that alex suggested we do. And stapled to the drawing she gave me was the first estimate sheet and each bookcase will be worth about $8500 each. And we're doing three. SHEEESH. I cannot believe what people will pay for things like that. But hey, I'm helping draw up an $8500 custom bookcase. :) I'll be finishing up some of the last details tomorrow I think.

Work was alright today. Just after 10 Esther asked us to help her put together the materials for the spec in the Gainsborough Hotel binder. So I got started organizing that, but then Amy came up and asked me to make a binder for these pricing sheets. Second to last work day Monday.
Weird - I'm now down to single digit work days left. 9. And 19 more days here total . How fast its going by...
The day was just kind of filled with little odd jobs here and there. I created and sent some package for Ceci to Hong Kong, then called the courier company and gave them the addresses to two packages that Rose and HeeSeung needed picked up and delivered. Laura was downstairs helping Winston with something for a bit this morning, so I was running the front.
A couple people came in saying they had meetings with people, and of course each had super super strong accents. I can never ever understand them. Haha. I'm always calling up whoever they want to talk to and struggling to relay who it is and what company they're from because I couldn't catch it in the first three tries.
After lunch, me and Laura spent about an hour preparing this SUPER expensive Lalique glass sample to be shipped to Canada. It was worth somewhere between $400-600. Scary. I must have bubbled wrapped that thing a million times. We found a perfectly shaped box for it and lined that with paper and bubble wrap as well and then taped the words FRAGILE - GLASS in red ink on every side of the box. It needed to stay in one piece! It's worth so much too...
HeeSeung needed it sent out before our mercury shipping guy comes at the standard time of 5:55 in the evening, so Laura walked over to FedEx to mail it, while I ran the front.
Later Christine came up and asked me to order all these samples. Which ended up being pretty easy because it was only two different kinds of fabric that we needed samples of - we just needed one of every color they had in each of those fabrics. And one of the styles must have had about 30 colors. But I emailed our rep about it and they should be coming on Friday.
Christine also is having me look through out library to try and find a comparable silk wallcovering fabric to one we already have. She just wants to find one with more colors ways. The one she has already comes in 20 different colors... but I guess that's not enough. So I spent the rest of the time looking through Holland & Sherry, Phillip Jeffries, and many many many other companies we have in the library trying to find a comparable silk wallcovering that comes in over 20 colors. 99% of them you can't tell just by seeing the one swatch we have in the library so I was constantly walking back to my desk to research it online and/or call the company to ask them. Needless to say I'm not done yet, and I'll be finishing the other half of christine's assignments tomorrow.
Oh and mother and Emily went back to Logan today! They left while I was at work - around 3:45 or so. Back to being on my own before my next batch of visitors come!

Going to the family ward with a family for once.
So today was the first time going to the family ward here with an actual family. Which was funny because 2 people instantly came up to us and introduced themselves and asked where we were from and stuff like that. But whenever I'd come here alone - no one would say a thing to me. Even when I was with Lindsay and Dani. No one said anything. But as soon as I came with Emily and mother - BAM. Introductions. Just weird. And something even weirder - one of the girls that gave a talk during sacrament graduated from USU. Same with her husband. WHAT? Small small world. They had just move up here after he was offered a job.
Anyways, on the way home we stopped at Serendipity's and put our name on the list. It was an hour wait, so we went home to change and stuff while we waited. I ordered mother a ticket to the airport with the shuttle service and we went back. As soon as we arrived there, we were seated. Delightful! And upstairs too which as great because last time I was here we sat downstairs and I always wondered what the second floor looked like. We got two frozen hot chocolates of course and then split a tortellini primavera.
The Frozen Hot Chocolates are so so so so good. I just love them. Mother and Emily did too. We ended up buying a mix that they sell there to take home for father. It makes around 30 ounces or so. I hope it will taste as good or close to as good as the ones they make in the restaurant.
We took a quick break at the apartment and then went on the tram that crosses over the east river that runs across the street from my apartment. We just rode it down and back, it's a really neat, smooth, ride with an awesome view. Then we headed down to Washington Square park and guess who was there?? The amazing piano playing man!! Yay! We love him. He really is quite amazing.
listening to him for a bit, we briefly wandered around the park and then took the subway down towards the brooklyn bridge. We actually foolishly started walking west thinking it was towards the bridge for some reason even though I know it's east. Oh well. I realized it when we were 1 block away from the end of the west side. Ha. So on our way back we stopped at a Barnes and Noble to cool off for a bit, even though it wasn't that hot, and to take a break. We browsed books for a while and then left. There's a book I do want to get though that I found at a Barnes and Noble earlier in my stay - it's called Columbine and it's all about the shootings in Columbine high in Colorado. It looks so so interesting. I need it.
We finally made it to the brooklyn bridge and walked out onto it. What a good view of the city! So glad it wasn't super hot today either! On our way back home we stopped at the whole foods mart in Union Square and got a quick snack and then went back to my apartment. We decided since it was only nine we should do something else instead of just sitting around for the rest of the night. Much to Emily's dismay however because all she ever wants to do is just sit on the bed and do nothing. :)
We went out to Times Square. Mother got 15 postcards for a $1. Sheeeesh. And we sat on the red steps for a while. Emily walked into some pole and told us she thought she had broken her pelvis. Hahaha. Loser.
So sad the weekends over. :(
10 days of work left though!

The dreaded hot Saturday.
Today was supposed to be one of the last days of this big heat wave back here and we weren't looking forward to the heat/humidity. I think it was supposed to be 103 or 104 with the humidity or something like that. So yucky. We planned ahead that today was basically going to be an inside day because we really didn't want to just wander around new york getting really sweaty and gross. It's not fun at all.
So after sleeping in till 10 we slowly started getting ready for the day. We started off by going to H&M because mother was a being a dear and bought me my favorite shirt there. :) Thanks mother! Then we headed down to Union Square again so Emily could get even more pants at forever 21. Shopaholic on this trip. We also went down to the theatre to pick up our tickets for tonight for a 9:16 showing of The Amazing Spiderman! Yay!
After going back to the apartment quickly just to drop off our clothes, we headed off to Madame Tussauds! What a fun wax museum! I really enjoyed going here! It was so fun to see all these famous people, historical and present, in wax form. And boy did they look super super real. It was almost weird standing next to some for a picture because it seemed like they'd just spring to life at any moment. And there was even a fun 4d movie as part of the museum! Neat!
Afterwards we were all hungry so we went to Carnegie Deli for two slices of cheesecake which were delicious! Mother took a bite of one of the pickles they give you as sort of an appetizer, decided it was gross, and then put the rest on the plate of someone who had just left the table next to her. Hahaha.
But Carnegie Deli was pricey for a whole meal, so we went down to Union Square so mother and Emily could try Cosi. They have catered for us at work many times so I knew they were really yummy and I thought Emily and Mother would like. And they did! They split a margherita pizza which they loved. Interestingly enough, the dreaded hott saturday, didn't seem as bad. It was overcast for part of the day which helped. The direct sun can be so hott.
We then went back to the apartment again to drop off the leftover cheesecake and just relaxed a bit before leaving to the movie down at Union Square. It was such a big theatre! I have never before gone up 2 escalators just to get the theatre. There was already a huuuuge line out the door when we got there, but luckily we were able to sit together. And we loved the movie! So good!
When we got outside afterwards, it was lightly lightly raining and you could tell it had been pouring earlier. But when we got off at our stop on 59th street, it was POURING. We got absolutely soaked. Mother had one umbrella, but it was no match at all. There was lots of thunder and lighting and it was blowing. We were so soaked, but it was fun too - what an adventure it was coming back at midnight in the rain.
Yay for a dreaded saturday that turned out rainy!
And I think I took a million pictures at the wax museum, but here's only a few. :)

What a joke of a day.
I did not want to go to work today. But alas, I had to. I dropped off those samples at that Comos lighting place. They weren't there, but the elevator worked and I was able to just leave them outside the door. Praise the heavens.
So I arrived a few minutes late to work and Laura and Alia were already at the front desk so I moved to the library today. And Anna's dog was there!! She has an ADORABLE Australian shepherd named Hudson. He liked me. He would just sleep right behind my chair or under my legs under the desk. HE was such a cutie. But I basically did nothing until lunch time. Really, nothing.
I met mother and Emily for lunch and we went to Medina's cafe. It was really really good. They went shopping at forever 21 afterward but I had to leave early to go back to work. However at this time it was almost 3:30 so I only had about 2 and a half hours left. HOORAY.
Laura said that Esther might have some paper for us to fold to put in a spec binder and that she'd let us know when she needed us. But about a half hour later Laura emailed me from across the room saying that it was already done because there really wasn't a lot of papers and if I needed help with anything. I suggested to go through the last remaining colored fabric bins and just organize them.
So she came in and we worked on that. Alia came in after a while too and the three of us just went through fabric until close. Laura left about 15 minutes early to meet her sister somewhere so me and Alia closed. The last 20 minutes couldn't have lasted any longer. I think 20 people were gone today and few people had even left earlier today. SO SO SO BORING.
Finally I could leave. I went home and had a snack and then me, mother, and emily went off to times square to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. SO GOOD. It was so amazing. And the singers in that production are all unbelievably amazing singers. It ended around 10:30 so we just went back home. My legs were so sore today. And I'm pretty darn sure it's from those 22 floors of stairs while carrying 10 pounds of glass. My calves are killing me. Ha. It's not fun. But the play was amazing!
And I can sleep in tomorrow! Best days ever.

Back to work.
Everyone else seemed to continue their fourth of july vacation today - except the interns. Today was really really slow. I think 14 people were out of the office today. Maybe more that I didn't even notice. So over half.
Rose came up and had four different glass tiles she wanted me to scan and send to her. Oh boy - something to do for 2 seconds. I completed that and then Winston called from downstairs and wanted me to come down. He needed me to prepare this set of pricing documents he was taking to a meeting this morning. So I recut them all. I had already cut them yesterday for Aijun once, but I guess it wasn't good enough. Blaaah. Whatever.
When I came up I needed to make labels again for Christine/Jeff. 5 more sets. Took a while to figure it out because it wasn't printing right for the longest time. Finally figured it out and finished them. Alia ordered some samples for Anna while I was doing this. Then Rose came up and asked us to wrap up those samples of glass in bubble wrap to get them ready to pack and ship.
At some point a lady called from an Interior Design firm in Chicago asking if I knew what wallcovering was used in a relaxation room in our Peninsula Spa project. No... definitely not off the top of my head. I told her I'd have to look it up and that I may not find out for a while because lots of the office is gone.
I went to lunch and got some sushi at Whole Foods. Too bad lunch couldn't have been three hours today... I hate slow days. I had some tasks to do in the morning, but literally nothing to do in the evening. Me and Alia were dying. Laura had been helping Rose ALL day photoshopping some elevations for a project downstairs. But I guess there wasn't enough for us to help on things too.
Eventually I suggested Alia go to the libray and organize things. It couldn't hurt. I deleted 2 year old messages we didn't need out of our inbox for like 2 hours. Thrilling. Esther emailed us around 5 asking us if we had time to do some photoshopping for her and Alia about died of excitement over something to do, so I let her do it.
She finished that up about 15 minutes before closing, so I emailed Rose again about the glass samples I scanned this morning and then wrapped up for her. She called about 15 minutes later and asked where I live. So I told her, confused. She asked if I could drop off these samples on my way home. Grr. Fine. It would have been nicer if you would have just given me the address to ship them to 15 minutes earlier and then Fausto (our fedex man) could have just picked them up when he stops by everyday after work....
But I did it anyways. They were pretty heavy actually when I had them all packaged up. The place was on 25th st and Lexington. When I got there and got in the elevator, pressing the 11th floor button did nothing. Pressing any floor for that matter did nothing. Which I thought was weird - I thought maybe the elevator was out of commission or something. Taking the stairs it was. However 10 flights later the stairs ended. I couldn't get to the eleventh by stair. You have got to be kidding me.
I got out on the 10th floor and tried pushing for the elevator down and it never came. BOO. So back down the stairs I went. I asked the doorman that how to get to the 11th floor because these packages were expected to get there tonight. He just said he wasn't authorized to do that. What? So I asked if I could just leave them at his desk and then inform the company that they were downstairs - to which he got snappy again and said he could not do that. Well thanks so much for your help stupid, useless doorman.
I was not happy. It was hot outside and carrying these glass tiles around was tiring. I met mother and emily at the laundromat on my way home. I helped mother carry home all the bags of clothes. Rose called and asked if I was able to deliver them because they were waiting for me. So I explained what happened and after she talked to HeeSeung, I was told just to drop them off on the way to work tomorrow. Oh hooray...
We thought we'd go out to eat at Grand Central Station tonight. We stopped at H&M on our way there because I wanted to buy a pair of pants, and then we were off. We ate at Juniors because it wasn't just about the only sit down restaurant open past 9 down there.
We came home and stayed there for the rest of the night. I do not want to go to work tomorrow. It will be a joke.
AMERICA!
Happy Fourth of July!!
We all got to sleep in today, it was so nice. We kinda took our time getting ready in the morning and then eventually left down to Union Square. The Farmers Market was going on again down there so it was really nice to browse through. They always have the best smelling fresh fruit and veggies and other things.
Then I had mother take my picture in front of my works "Champalimaud" sign outside the door. Needed some proof that I actually work here! :)
We then went some shopping at some of the stores around the square and then walked over to 5th avenue to look in some of the stores up that street. Before too long we got super hot so we began looking for something to eat. We ended up going back down to Union Square because we had wandered up to 23rd street, and then found a place a few blocks over called "Tossed". They had really good salads, sandwiches and wraps. Me and mother had a half caesar sald with sandwich - and the caesar salad was one of the best caesar salads I have ever had. SO GOOD. Plus it was just so nice to get into a place that was refrigerated because we were already so so hot.
After we ate, we went back to the apartment to drop off our leftovers and just take a quick break to get out of the heat. We left a bit later to walk through China Town and Little Italy. A lot of the stores down there were closed due the fourth, same with a lot of the sidewalk restaurants in little Italy. But we weren't really interested in any of the stores down there, we were mainly just walking around to see what was there. But again, we became so hot so quickly due to the humidity that we just wanted to leave after about an hour.
We got on the Subway and headed up to Times Square to go to the Disney Store. It is the cutest place. Me and Emily each got a stuffed animal. I got Meeko from Pocahontas, and Emily got a Dalmation puppy. Then we again went back to our apartment to rest before heading out to see the fireworks.
We had to walk over to 11th street and there were so many people there. We eventually went down 56th street and it turned out that it wasn't the greatest viewing area. We could see the fireworks, but only about half of each burst. There were trees in the way. Oh well... Still neat to see what we could. Emily wasn't feeling well the whole time and just wanted to leave. We all felt so hot the entire time just sitting out in the humidity. I hate humidity so darn much.
We left and stopped at the Food Emporium across from my apartment and each got lots of drinks because we were so thirsty. We came back to the apartment and gulped down our desired juices, water, and pop for mother.
All in all, it was a pretty fun fourth. It was just a super sweaty one. :)

Tuesday is the new Wednesday.
Remember how I said earlier that I hate Tuesdays? Well, now I love them. At least for this week. Since the 4th of July is tomorrow, Tuesday means you're halfway through the work week. YAY.
However the down side to this week is that it's a really slow week. Many people at Champalimaud started vacation Tuesday and it was already slow today. I know it's only going to get slower too - at least 12+ people will be gone Thursday and Friday as well.
Laura said she was going to sit in the materials room again, so I sat up front at the desk with Alia again. And sure enough, just as I had predicted, it was a pretty slow day. Alia actually started doing some rendering for Jon in the library so I was by myself for a while.
A vendor came in at noon just like every Tuesday. They were okay - it was a company called Porcelanosa. Lunch was the best part about it. They brought a ton of food and there were a lot of employees gone today. I had seconds and even thirds of some things. YAY.
At one point I went down to the 6th floor and helped Aijun cut and prepare these huge construction documents for some project meeting thing she was going too. And then later I created 5 sets of labels for Christine for these 5 binders she was creating. We got a ton of office supplies in today so I worked on unpacking those while I was by myself at the desk.
Laura left around 2 to go with Rose, the principal Alexandra, and some others to the Waldorf Hotel for a site visit. They were gone for a while - at least two and a half hours. We had created labels for the hard hats they were going to be wearing. :)
At four I went to get ice cream and ice for Jon at Whole Foods for the root beer float party we were having at the office. He was throwing it for us. Yeah, it was that chill today.
FINALLY after work ended I rushed home because Emily and mother had landed at about 5:30 and I wanted to get home to meet them at my apartment. Luckily I had gotten home before they had arrived so I hung out in my apartment until they called me letting me know that they were waiting outside on the sidewalk.
After I let them in and they unpacked some of their stuff, we headed out to eat at Ritz Diner down the street to my apartment. Then we went to the columbus circle area up on 59th west. We walked up to the temple and then just continued walking for a while.
Eventually we all just got hot and kind of bored of wandering so we went back to my neighborhood and went over to Johnny Rockets to split two shakes between the three of us - strawberry banana and mocha fudge. SO GOOD.
Should be a fun week playing around with the family!

Week 4 Begins.
Another Monday - and so begins the fourth week of my internship.
Another intern was starting today. Which neither me or Laura knew about. We actually arrived at the office at the same time and Christine was standing at reception with this girl who she introduced as the new intern starting today. Say what?
So I guess we're now a little trio of interns. Her name is Altivenea?.... I 100% do not remember how to spell her full name or how it's even pronounced. She told us to call her Alia for short. She has an adorable accent though. She's from Russian originally but she's lived in New York for the past 8 years. She's going to school here right now and she has a year and a half left still.
Laura started discussing the basics at the front desk while I took care of the emails that came in over the weekend. Then Laura took her on a quick tour while I ran the front. A little while later after Christine came back to talk to us, we decided that every other day me and Laura will switch off sitting in the front while the other takes one of the empty desks in the library. At least until Alia is comfortable at the front on her own. We absolutely do not have room for three interns at the front. Plus it's just silly. So I volunteered to take the first duty today - and Laura sat in the library to work on some things for Rose.
Luckily I had some things come up to mail so I was able to show Alia how to create labels and mail off packages. And a couple clients came in asking for people which was also good because it really helps to see how you handle those kind of situations when you're knew. She had lots of questions about the phones as well and fortunately enough it rang quite a few times this morning.
Ceci emailed us at one point asking if one of us (Laura or myself) could run down to the Holland & Sherry showroom to pick up these 4 huge baskets. Of course we could. We love making trips out. Neither one of us volunteered yet though - the showroom didn't open till 12 and we weren't sure who would be busiest at that time.
And then a little while later, Elisabeth, one of our senior design associates, asked me if one of us could run to a local hardware store to pick up 5 hard hats and 5 pairs of safety glasses. Super random right? She said it was for the Waldorf project. I know that the Waldorf hotel is in the process of being torn up right now because we're renovating it. So I'm assuming 5 people are making a site visit tomorrow. There's really no other explanation for needing those things. Ha.
I informed Laura about the new trip and told her we'd need to coordinate the trips so someone will always be at the desk, while at the same time allowing us to take lunches. Laura took her lunch first while me and Alia were at the front. So I continued to work on that custom rug for Stella. She actually is going to be gone all week, (so lucky...) so Aijun is working with me on it now. And making that darn strie pattern effect thing in photoshop was getting so so tricky. Aijun kept emailing me and asking if it was done yet, and she needs it soon, etc, etc. She was stressing me out! Me and Alia were working on it together and we couldn't get some things right that they needed done on it. Plus I knew that not only did Aijun want it done ASAP, I needed to get it done ASAP because the longer it would take me, the further behind we'd be on eveything else we needed to get done. Errands always take longer than you think and we now had two to do.
ANYWAY. After a stressful hour or two, I emailed it to her. And it wasn't exactly how she wanted it, but I couldn't figure it out and it was taking up too much time. Stupid darn custom rug got the best of me today. At least I got the colors right in it! And the pattern turned out really cool too. Just the stupid strie effect was dumb. I hate their photoshop because its SO OLD. I'm not used to such an old version. Some things are the same, and some things are not. It will take a bit more getting used to. Still, I'm happy that I was able to help create this fantastic custom rug for the St. Regis Hotel in Jakarta Indonesia.
When I finally finished that I rushed off for just a quick bite to eat and when I came back Laura and Alia headed out to get those baskets. When they returned I went to a Home Depot on 23rd street to pick out hard hats and safety glasses. I never would have guessed in a million years that I would be done that on one of my days here. But it went good. Afterall, I am master of the subways and about getting around here now. :)
When I returned it was almost 5. The day went by SO quick today! Ellie came up and asked me to do a bunch of scans when I got back. So me and Alia worked on those until she had to leave at 5:30 and then I finished them off at about 6:15. Busy busy day. And stressful. But I'd rather had than a day that drags on.
And mother and Emily come tomorrow! AND I have Wednesday off! What a great week. :)

Lazy sunday with a 100% chance of humidity.
It was a solo trip to church today. Which felt slightly more awkward alone because the 11:00 church is a family ward. Oh well. Sleep is more worth it to me. It was really nice today though. It was fast sunday, so it was a fast and testimony meeting and I really enjoyed it.
On my way back home I stopped at an H&M just to look around for fun. Then I got a slice of pizza at the little cafe on the corner right by apartment for lunch. I needed to make plans for today! I still had no idea what I wanted to do.
I eventually decided to go to see the temple since I still hadn't seen it. It was then that I noticed about 5 blocks below the temple there was an Art and Design museum listed on the map. So that settled it. I would visit the west side of central park today. It turned out to be a really nice area! Columbus drive has a lot of neat things to see and it seems to be a pretty nice area. I would have explored it more but it was SO hot. I just wanted to get inside the museum.
It was a fairly small little museum, especially in comparison to the other two I have already been too since I've been too. But I found it to be really interesting. It was a VERY quiet museum experience. Since it was so small and just not as popular as the well known ones, everyone just seemed to wander around in silence. On each small floor of the museum there would only be about 10 or less people in the room with you and everyone just wandered around quietly. You could have heard a pin drop on some of the floors. That made it a bit weird..
Nevertheless, I enjoyed myself. Especially their special exhibition: Swept away.

Not quite all the things that were on display you can see here. I took a picture of my favorite thing and I'll post it below. But most of the things were created using dirt, lint, dust, or charcoal. Oh! and my favorite - smog. There were amazing sculptural pieces of art that were created by using these elements. Incredible! Who would have thought?
After I finished up at the museum, I walked up to 65th street to see the temple. It was neat to see it stuck right on the corner surrounded by skyscrapers. However it looks like it has no windows. At least from the two sides that were exposed. Does it not have natural light inside? Weird. It's not my favorite temple to look at, but it was still neat to see here.
At this point I was already super hot, so I took the subway back home and went back to my apartment. I was meaning to only be there for a bit while I cooled back down and rested for a bit, but I couldn't get the motivation to go back outside after I fell asleep. So it was a lazy day from about 5 on.
It's a 4 day work week this week! Hooray for the 4th of July! And mother and Emily are arriving on Tuesday after work! Hooray!

SATURDAY!
Another weekend! Hooray! Slept in till 10 - oh blessed day.
Today I went to the American Museum of Natural History up on 79th street. It was AMAZING. There was so much to see! Some areas I went through quicker than others, but I at least saw every exhibit and that was my goal. I particularly liked their dinosaur exhibit. And the gemstone and mineral exhibits. So so pretty to look at.
I was there till about 4-4:30 and then wanted to leave because I needed to get back in time for this street fair that I wanted to attend. It ended at 6. I went home, got a quick snack, cooled down for a bit, and then left again. And I must say, I know the subway system here so well now. And I must look like I know what I'm doing and where I'm going because I had four people stop me today and ask for directions. And I could answer all of them too. BAM. I am no tourist anymore! Kidding. It's just nice to feel completely comfortable getting around. It seemed so daunting last year when I came here.
The street fair was supposedly this "Festival of the America's" with over 500 international boothes and what not. That wasn't really the case, but it was still fun. It spanned down 15 blocks. 55th-42nd. A lot of the boothes had the same things... I must have seen 20 boothes that had pocket watch necklaces. How are all these different people selling the exact same 'unique' item? Hmm... Anyway, the variety wasn't that great. I didn't need/want scarfs, or ugly sunglasses, or beads. It was just fun to stroll down and see what was there. I did buy a rock necklace for only $3 that I love. It looks like a piece of geode that's been polished and shined. I think it's quite neat. There were tons of different food vendors set up down this street fair that all smelled and looked delicious!
I would have taken more pictures outside when I was wandering around today, but now that I'm wandering alone, I feel weird taking pictures of everything outside. I feel like it draws attention to the fact that I'm a tourist. "Hey I'm alone and taking pictures! Yes, I am a tourist too!" So I just haven't taken as many today. Sorry! I wanted some of the outside of the museum, the street fair, and the streets in the upper west side, but I felt weird.
I took the subway back home again because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do yet with the rest of my day. And it was SO HOT out. It got uncomfortable quickly walking around just because you'd get hot and sweaty in no time. I ended up going down to Union Square later where I work and browsed through some of the clothing stores down there. I hate/love doing this. I love shopping, but I hate not having any money to buy something. And NY has the best clothes. BOO.
I went back home and ate dinner and spent the rest of the night blogging - including this post here. :) It's nice to finally relax after walking around literally all day. My feet are tired. I do hope this is good for my bad leg though! It will probably build up some muscle that I've lost. Or so I hope. All in all, it was a very enjoyable day today.
